Persuasive Speech On School Uniforms - 919 Words

School uniforms, do you consider them as an obstruction of the 1st amendment of the US Constitution â€Å"Freedom of Expression†? How about having equality amongst every child at school age? This is the perfect age to teach them that no matter the social economic status from one child to another, nobody is any less or more then someone else. School uniforms would be an enormous step towards shaping a better future for our children. This would stop all the questions some parents get from their asking â€Å"why I can’t have HM, Tommy Hilfiger, Adidas or American Eagle clothes like other kids in school†. The freedom of dressing how anyone wants is what every teenager wants and does, but this sometimes causes tension amongst them. I will be explaining†¦show more content†¦shirt or Urban outfitters. At this time was when low self-esteem kicked in. I would be shameful of what I wore to school and started to ask for nicer clothes knowing we couldn’t affo rd it. The belittling that went on for a couple of years provoked me the pressure of needing to have what others had. These types of situations happen more often than anyone imagines not just in middle school at any age where one person wants to be better than the rest. Secondly the disagreement most of the parents have about the school uniforms policy. Is just the beginning of the list of cons for this policy and yes, the cost for these such uniforms year by year go up like anything else! At least a few to start of the year, since school uniforms are not tax-deductible per IRS. It does tend to add up if you have more than one child. So, it does have it pros and cons, but at the end are they worth it? Here is are a couple of statements from parents on their opinion on this issue. Both of the following statements talk about the same issue but with diff erent outcomes. â€Å"School uniforms create a level playing field among students, reducing peer pressure and bullying†, â€Å"When all students are dressed alike, competition between students over clothing choices and the teasing of those who are dressed in less expensive or less fashionable outfits canShow MoreRelatedRhetorical Analysis Of Michelle Obamas Speech900 Words   |  4 Pages A Rhetorical Analysis of Michelle Obama’s 2016 DNC Speech At the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Michelle Obama the first lady at the time, was endorsing the democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton. F. D. Salinger s Catcher Of The Rye - 1721 Words

J. D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye features a complex narrative surrounding a troubled young student, Holden Caulfield. Difficulties he faces throughout the story force Holden to confront his fears of adulthood and maturation and the responsibilities therein through the difficulties he faces throughout the story. Academic controversy surrounds whether Holden learns from these confrontations and adjust accordingly, maturing throughout the story. While initially this seems rather subjective, a thorough analysis of Holden’s actions throughout the story as well as of the symbolism injected by Salinger makes it quite clear that Holden does undergo a significant maturity arc as the story progresses. Holden’s social development and maturation†¦show more content†¦Despite his longing for acceptance, â€Å"His efforts to connect with any stereotypical kid his age result in abject failureâ€Å"(Privitera 204). Salinger thoroughly emphasizes this through Holdenà ¢â‚¬â„¢s relationships with Stradlater and Ackley, with both of whom he has a strenuous and artificial relationship, demonstrated by his internal, flippant commentaries on his peers as he discusses them in the book (Salinger 31-40). Holden’s peers ostracize him due to his more introspective and introverted nature, as seen in Stradlater’s angry response to Holden’s reflective response to this writing assignment, saying that he doesn’t â€Å"do one damn thing the way [he’s] supposed to†(Salinger 47). These difficulties stem not from deficiencies of his peers, but rather a problem of Holden’s refusal to accept anything different from what he expects, making excuses about his reasons throughout the book to cover his actions. His rationalization of his internal wants and desires impedes any proper connection he could possibly make with his peers. He, â€Å"Subconsciously longs to be accepted yet feels he cannot make the connection†(Privitera 205). This directly correlates with Holden’s dubbing of many people, practices, or labeling things as â€Å"phony.† He refers to the school and each of the students individually as â€Å"phony,† and calling out, â€Å"Sleep tight, ya morons!†(59) when he leaves Pencey for the last time. This demonstrates Holden’s use of â€Å"phoniness† to describe anything that doesn’t meet his

Italian Renaissance A Political Science Perspective free essay sample

A presentation of the society which developed during the Italian Renaissance and the political factors which influenced its formation. This paper looks at the Italian Renaissance from a political science perspective with particular focus on Florence and the crisis of legitimacy of the Renaissance. In order to fully understand the politics of the times, the writer briefly examines the background of the Renaissance and why it started in the Italian city-state of Florence. The types of government and politics that developed during the period and the effect these developments had on European politics and history are also discussed. Most scholars and historians are in general agreement that western civilization went into a cultural, political and intellectual decline following the eclipse of the Roman Empire in the 5th century AD. The decline lasted through the so-called Middle Ages until a series of dynamic intellectual and cultural movements in Europe from the 14th to 16th century (the Renaissance or re-birth) acting as a bridge between the classical and the modern age catapulted Europe towards rapid development leading to the Age of Enlightenment, the industrial revolution and the present times. Lust getting out of bed I realize that in only a few hours I will be looking at a true Airman, one who made it through boot camp alive, one who will walk anywhere with confidence knowing that he has accomplished something great.I hurriedly walk around the house with a slight skip In my step as Im trying to get everything ready to go. My heart beats faster and faster with every tick of the clock as I continually check the time. I can hear in the background the tick-tock and it haunts me for it tells me that time is moving slowly. My mom is watching me carefully wondering how Im going to actually act once I see Ben. She tells me to take a breather for a minute and sit down, you have plenty of time. But I cant stop, I have to keep moving or I know time will only hold still. She rolls her eyes at me with a slight chuckle and continues on. As Im skipping from place to place I realize how much energy Im losing because Im not doing anything productive. I move my purse from the couch to the table, than back to the couch while I move my shoes to the door for the third time. After my purse and shoes are in the right place its time to go. I look at the clock one last time and take a deep breath; my heart begins to beat fast. Leap Into my car with the largest smile that my lips could possibly form. As Im driving along I get this feeling in my stomach. Its a feeling like I cant breathe and my stomach is being squeezed tightly while my heart beats wildly with my face twitching from the smiling. I see all these lights in front of me strategically placed around the road . I made it to the airport. My head gets hot as I breathe heavily. l cannot belle Im going to see my boyfriend! I say under my breath. I sit there In complete disbelief at what is going on. After what seemed like a million minutes the woman on the intercom announced that it was time to board and I was on my way. The plane lands and I race out of the walkway.I glance at the clock on my phone to see Im right on time. My face goes from pure happiness to a look of desperation only 1 OFF carrying my luggage. I would glance at my clock only to see a few minutes have passed when it felt like ages. As time gets closer I notice guys passing me who at a glance could look very much like Ben.. Its five fifty seven and he should be waiting at the security entrance. With grace and elegance I pull up tall and firm ready to finally see my Airman. Walking towards the security check point I hold my breath and anyone could feel my heart beating from a mile away.Groups of people start piling out like a flock of geese trying to get a single piece of bread. As I see a man in uniform standing at the corner and appear through the cluster of people my heart stops and I hold my breath. Tears started welling up in my eyes. But something, or someone, somewhere guided my attention to these black shoes. They are perfectly shiny and coated, as black as black gets, glistening while the lights shinning down softly graced them. I look down and I see dark blue pants that are perfectly pressed and perfectly placed on this persons body. A red rose sits in his gentle hand to the pants. His arms, are folded ever so gently behind him. The Jacket is a dark blue color also strategically pressed to match up with the pants. My heart skips a beat as I see his shoulders, then his neck, and finally our eyes meet. He instantly smiles revealing that one dimple that I love so much as I smile back to him with tears in my eyes. At this sight of his smile my heart stops and my stomach flutters. The whole walk down our eyes stay glued to each other in awe that this moment has finally come. My body is numb at the sight of him so I patiently wait there never taking my eyes away.We stand there, Ben in front of me, smiling at each other lost in the reality of what is going on. As if he was reading my mind we both embrace one another at the same time. The tears stream down my face as Im filled with so many emotions. Im so grateful to be with him at last and I couldnt be more proud to be hugging a United States Airman. I whisper in his ear l love you and squeeze tightly never wanting this feeling to go. As we walked away together holding hands my heart races and I cant stop looking over at him and smiling. My love is finally beside me and I am happy, truly happy.
